Will Chiropractic Help Plantar Fasciitis?

heel painHave you ever experienced a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot when you get out of bed, stand up after sitting for long periods of time, or take your first few steps after getting up? The discomfort can range from mild and come and go, to severe, sharp pains with every step.

If that’s the case, chances are you may suffer from plantar fasciitis—an inflammation of the plantar fascia on the bottom of the foot. The plantar fascia is like a tendon sheath that goes from the heel bone up into the forefoot.

This condition can be extremely painful, and it’s most commonly caused by an overpronation in the foot or when the foot loses some of its normal arch and stretches the tendon sheath.

How We Can Help

Chiropractic care

“Chiropractic is fantastic for helping plantar fasciitis and there are various ways we help people. The first is to ensure the body is aligned properly to provide equal weight bearing through both of the feet. We do that by adjusting the spine and the foot or feet. Additionally, there are other therapies or modalities we may want to use,” said Dr. Goffe.

Custom orthotics

Frequently, we will use a custom foot orthotic to correct the position of the foot when it’s in contact with the ground to relieve the cause of the problem.

SoftWave TRT

If a patient has a lot of inflammation and pain, we can use our SoftWave technology to quickly reduce pain and inflammation, stimulate and trigger the body’s ability to regenerate damaged tissue in that area.

How Soon Will I Get Relief?

You may experience relief fairly quickly depending on the extent of the condition. Many times people notice an improvement simply after an adjustment. If we need to create custom foot orthotics to correct the position of the foot in contact with the ground, it takes about two weeks to get used to those and another two weeks to heal. When we use the SoftWave technology, pain and inflammation can be decreased quickly, sometimes in one session.
